Advanced Placement Program
We currently offer 21 Advanced Placement courses within all core content areas.
National Merit Program
From the Class of 2012, we have four students who are National Merit Scholarship finalists and eihgt who are Commended Scholars.
We have the highest caliber of teachers. Over 90 percent of our teachers teach in the subject area for which they have their primary degree, and over 60 percent of our faculty has a Master’s degree or higher.
Critical Thinking Model
Academically, our faculty, staff, students, parents and community help our students achieve their maximum potential.
Because of the amazing support and interest during our Unified Basketball, MVHS started a Unified Soccer in the fall of 2007. Unified sports are for mentally and physically disabled students. These programs allow severe needs students to participate in sports.
Clubs and Activities
Students can participate in numerous co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities.
Stage Flight Theatre is the name of the theatre company at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch. The students chose the name for the company, and student participation and excitement in the theatre program at Mountain Vista continues to be one of the school’s proudest accomplishments. Previous productions include: The Comedy of Errors, Honk!, You Can’t Take It With You, The Miser, The Passage, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Crucible, Urinetown: The Musical, See How They Run, Much Ado About Nothing, Pippin, and The Heidi Chronicles.
The following MVHS Theatre Students have been awarded Superiors at the Colorado Thespian Conference, and selected to perform on the mainstage:
- 2005: Musical Theatre – Dan Gladem and Collin Leydon, “Living In America,” Rent
- 2007: Duet Scene – Libby Munson and Amy Polete, Rabbit Hole
- 2008: Monologue – Alexandra Johnson
- 2009: Pantomime – Bryan and Jason Smith, “Twindemonium”
The America High School Theatre Festival has honored Stage Flight Theatre and the production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead was selected by Colorado Thespians as the Main Stage performance at the 2007 Colorado Thespian Conference.
Stage Flight Theatre also hosted and produced the first ever All-State Colorado Theatre production, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, in 2010.
Theatre teacher Jeremy Goldson was named the 2011 Colorado High School Theatre Teacher of the Year by the Alliance for Colorado Theatre.
Eagle Vision is a popular weekly news segment produced by Mountain Vista students that students can enjoy during their advisement program, CONNECT, each week in order to become aware of the latest happenings in and around the school community.
Our dedicated parents at MVHS have logged over 1,000 hours to help students, faculty and staff remain a priority in and outside of the classroom.
The Aerie yearbook staff produces an award-winning annual. About 1,700 students purchase a yearbook.
